Sing

A song that W suggested I and another colleague sing at the company DnD. Frankly speaking, I can't really understand the lyrics completely but it's a song that grows on you.
Heaven Knows (No Frontiers) Lyrics
by The Corrs
[SHARON:]
If life is a river and your heart is a boat
And just like a water baby, baby born to float
And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high
And your heart is Amelia dying to fly
Heaven knows no frontiers and I've seen heaven in your eyes
[CAROLINE:]
And if life is a bar room in which we must wait
'Round the man with his fingers on the ivory gates
Where we sing until dawn of our fears and our fates
And we stack all the dead men in self addressed crates
[BOTH:]
In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day
When fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes
[SHARON:]
If your life is a rough bed of brambles and nails
And your spirit's a slave to man's whips and man's jails
[CAROLINE:]
Where you thirst and you hunger for justice and right
And your heart is a pure flame of man's constant night
[BOTH:]
In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day when fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways
And heaven has its ways
When all will harmonise
And you know what's in our hearts
The dream will realise
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle

Clearing my wardrobe in preparation for CNY. Put into use the 3Rs concept we have learnt since young.
Reduce - Throw away all clothes that are torn and tattered. Those of no donation value and have not been worn for months... Throw.
Reuse - Give away to the salvation army pieces that are still good, but I can never ever fit into again or simply don't like anymore. A person's trash maybe another's treasure!
Recycle - Review old clothes that have been kept away for the day that I can fit into them again! And thankfully, I did manage to fit into a few pieces that have been around since my secondary school years!! Haa.. that age old levis jeans and dress bought years ago! Finally can put them into good use again! Pair them with new pieces, who would think that they are years old!?! I guess I now have additional motivation to continue going to the gym!!
Are you doing your reduce, reduse and recycle too!? Enjoy! You may find some treasures again!

Attraction

What qualities attract one to another? Is physical attraction a part of the criteria? I don't think so. Of cos I guess being good looking sure helps, but there are many more qualities that are important. What do you look for in a guy? =P The following are some of the things that I think are important! Haa.. Yup, I'm listing my 择偶条件. So help me keep a look out yeah!?! Haa...
Dedication: A guy who is dedicated to the things he does, be it work or other activities, exudes charm. A serious attitude, the initiative when doing things are qualities that are very attractive. Know what he is doing, guiding and helping others along. Displaying leadership yet without being overbearing or bossy leaves good impression. 认真的男人,很有魅力。
Humor: This is something that's very important. To be able to deliver humor without being sacarstic, and join in the laughter. A deep laugh that's infectious brings smiles to others.
Chivalry: A guy who's gentlemanly in his actions is very sweet. Old traditions like holding the door, getting the drinks should be bare basic.
These are but just three qualities, yet three qualities that are hard to find.
But then again, even if you do meet one who possess all your dream qualities, would you make the first step? I know I won't. I believe fate has already destined the partner of one's life. Even if one has to go a big round before finding the destined one, so be it. In the end, what's meant to be, will be.

2005 ... 2006

Since the last posting, many things happened.
Guess the most significant was the crossing of 2005 to 2006. For that, I spent the critical moment tiptoeing at the 39th floor corridor of block 55 (?) in queenstown, trying to catch a glimpse of the fireworks at marina bay and mount faber. They were beautiful, sure envy those people who have houses on those floors!
Along with the passing into 2006... I've finally completed the report of my research component of my work (Well, actually still have to do the first draft edition after posting this!!). Hence, also started on the 2nd phase in my internship. Been getting my hands dirty with bacteria cells and DNA, RNA, carcinogenic chemicals etc these couple of days. Time is really lacking with the need to juggle lectures, seminars and practicals. A lot of the time, I barely understood what was going on the practicals as we proceeded through the steps in molecular biology. Luckily, the other interns are all really nice, taking their time to explain to us the steps. They are really good at what they do, know the purpose of each step etc. However, with the limited time and limited space in the labs, very soon, I expect disagreements to show up as different people have different working habits. Now, everyone's still courteous with each other. I guess lots of initiative and considerateness are required, should this next six months continue as an enjoyable and memorable journey for all of us.
The biggest realisation with the start of 2006 is the number of years I've known my friends. With Bian and Kuang/2L, this is the 12th year! 4L - 10 years and JC friends-8 years. I guess I am just glad that we still keep in touch. Always felt that friends that I've known in my youth are the closest and most endearing. I guess back then, everyone's young and more innocent. There are no hidden agendas, people are more trusting. We bare our souls easier. As one grows older, one becomes more guarded. We close off our hearts and don't open them as easily for fear of being hurt. It's just the nature way of protecting ourselves, but makes one so jaded. Oh well...
Dear friends,
Thank you for putting up with me for the X years that you have known me. I probably have not been doing my best as a friend but I promise I will strive to keep the precious friendships we have built till now. May you have a fulfiling 2006 and the many years to come. Our friendships will be nurtured and flourish.
Love, Nia
